Your Future Look in Two Steps

September 08, 2015 | John Paul Catanzaro

You’ve decided that you have enough muscle mass on your frame and that it’s time to refine it, so what do you do?

Well, think of yourself as a sculptor. You’ve got this rock staring at you in the mirror. Now, it’s time to chisel away at it and the weights are your tools.

Here are two steps you need to take to find the look that you’re after:

Step 1: Rate Yourself

Okay, the first step is to determine which muscles need to grow and which muscles need to shrink in order to achieve a more proportional, symmetrical, and balanced look. Rate the development of each major muscle group on a scale of 1-10.

Step 2: Pump Up

Now, once you’ve determined the two muscles that are lagging the most, it’s time to pump them up. Use a high-volume routine and then stand in front of a mirror in your underwear right after the workout.

“That’s your future looking back at you,” according to Frank Zane, a three-time Mr. Olympia who had one of the most proportionate physiques to ever grace a bodybuilding stage.

If you like the look you see in the mirror, then that’s the direction you should go in. You’ll need to specialize in those areas.
